GBI undertook project management and contract administration services for LHSC’s new outpatient Surgical Centre at 746 Baseline Rd. E in London. The Surgi-Center was a large undertaking with an aggressive timeline for completion. The new outpatient service is intended to re-direct small surgical procedures from the main campus and increase overall capacity at the hospital to help with wait times for surgical procedures.
The Surgi-Center project involved the interior demolition and renovation of the 4th floor of the building. GBI worked closely with the architect, LHSC and with K&L Construction. This was a very large and complex project involving a multitude of contractors. In addition to the usual complexities of a large construction project, the new Surgi-Center was also required to meet stringent medical infrastructure standards for equipment, contractor safety and infection control, while tenant occupancy was uninterrupted on the remaining three levels of the building.
Challenges on the project came from aging infrastructure, including roof top mechanical, building automation and controls, and other building infrastructure. All challenges were overcome in collaborative, team-centric approach and discussions with LHSC, the Architect and General Contractor to find cost effective solutions to meet both project requirements and LHSC’s budget.
